Our final destination in the Baltics, amazing Tartu town is located 185 km north from Tallinn (3 hours drive). Brief walking city tour will take us through the main attractions of the city. Its university cultivates an Oxbridge/Ivy League tradition but has combined it with the radicalism of Berkeley or the London School of Economics. Estonia’s most famous scientists studied and taught here and its most famous patriots, whether in opposition to the Tsar, the pre-war president Konstantin Päts or the Soviet regime, likewise spent their formative years in Tartu.
From Tartu, we are only 100 km away from Russia. After border crossing near Pechory town, time permitting as much depends on traffic jam at the customs, we will have a look at this beautiful rural settlement and ancient monastery as well as Izborsk ruins, which is the oldest stone fortress in Russia!
Proceed to Pskov for overnight. Welcome to Russia!
