There are many great museums in Russia deducated to WWII. You may wish to spend an extra day in Moscow to visit Monino Air Face Museum or The Victory Museum, one of the largest military-historical museums in the world, an all-Russian research and cultural and educational center. The idea to create a majestic memorial and museum complex to commemorate the Victory of the Soviet people in the Great Patriotic War was first expressed by the legendary Soviet commander Georgy Zhukov. Large-scale construction began in 1985. In 1986, on the basis of Order No. 86 of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, the Central Museum of the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945 was opened. The first director of the institution was a veteran of the Great Patriotic War, Major General L.K. Kotlyar. Among the employees were 53 veterans of World War II. The team monitored the quality of the work performed, maintained comprehensive relations with veterans and search teams, conducted the scientific development of the future exposition and organized the collection of museum objects. The official opening took place on May 9, 1995 with officials from 55 countries in attendance.
